Ils compriment aussi bien leur nom (de The Management à MGMT) que l’espace-temps. Les membres de ce duo étrange de New York, Goldwasser et VanWyngarden, ont cette capacité surprenante à réduire 40 ans de production psychédélique et 30 ans de production post-punk en quelques maigres instants, ceux qui leur permettent d’alimenter des compositions décalées, référencées mais très personnelles. À mi-chemin entre le minimalisme de Suicide et les envolées de The Flaming Lips, ils ont déjà accédé au statut de groupe culte.
